Actors Bob Balaban, Jordan E. Cooper, and BD Wong, along with notable theater artisans such as director Sarah Benson and Repertorio Español executive artistic director Rafael Sánchez, have been named to the 2025–2026 Broadway season Tony Awards Nominating Committee.
Presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, the Tony Awards are the most prestigious honors in the theater industry. The Nominating Committee plays the key role in determining which Broadway productions receive nominations and ultimately win Tony statuettes. Members attend all eligible productions throughout the season and then convene to vote on the nominees.
The 64-person committee serves staggered three-year terms and is composed of professionals from a wide array of disciplines including acting, directing, producing, design, and education. For the 2025–2026 season, the committee features a mix of returning members and newly appointed experts.
New additions to the committee this year include Mark Bennett, Rob Berman, Jocelyn Bioh, Jeremy Blocker, Jade King Carroll, Will Davis, Daniel Goldstein, Joshua Harmon, Ricky Hinds, Timothy Huang, Anna K. Jacobs, Jessica Jahn, Peter Kaczorowski, Glen Kelly, Danny Mefford, Rafael Sánchez, Jeffrey Sweet, BD Wong, and Charlotte Wilcox.
At the 78th Tony Awards earlier this year, “Maybe Happy Ending,” a touching love story involving two abandoned robots, was named best musical. “Purpose,” a sharply funny exploration of a Civil Rights icon’s dysfunctional family, won best play. A stripped-down revival of “Sunset Boulevard” won best musical revival, while “Eureka Day,” a comedic take on vaccine mandates, earned best revival of a play.
Among the acting winners were Darren Criss (“Maybe Happy Ending”), Cole Escola (“Oh, Mary!”), Nicole Scherzinger (“Gypsy”), and Sarah Snook (“The Picture of Dorian Gray”).
