Blues music is echoing all over town for its 20th year Saturday.

The Marshall Blues Festival, a free Blues music festival, is taking over downtown Saturday for its 20th anniversary with performances from The Tweed Jones, Serita’s Black Rose and The Jimmys Band.

‘Horrendous smell’ from restaurant closes down Portage businesses

Some businesses in Portage are temporarily closed Monday because of an odor they say is coming from a local restaurant.

Signs posted in front of stores neighboring Maui Poke read “Sorry, we’re closed today. I’m sure you can smell why.”

Police are searching for a 14-year-old girl who went missing Sunday

A 14-year-old girl has been missing since Sunday.

Styla Denton from Eaton County left her home Sunday and has not been seen or heard from since, according to Michigan State Police officials. She does not have her cell phone with her and is being considered “missing and endangered.”

Teenage girl died after getting ejected from a car, drunk driver may be factor

A teenage girl was killed after getting ejected from a car Sunday night.

A 19-year-old Three Rivers woman was driving a Dodge Charger west on M 86 near Shimmel Road when the car went airborne and rolled over after trying to pass another vehicle, causing a 13-year-old girl to get ejected from the vehicle, according to Michigan State Police (MSP) officials.

Shots fired at an IHOP after a group of six boys ran out on their bill, no one injured

An IHOP is damaged Monday after shots were fired at the restaurant by a group running out on their bill.

At least two windows were shot out and a car was damaged after a group of six boys dined and dashed from an IHOP on Westnedge then fired shots at the restaurant when they got to the parking lot, according to Portage Department of Public Safety (PPDS) officials.

Man drives truck into church, opens fire; security guard kills suspect in Michigan

A Sunday morning service at CrossPointe Church turned into a scene of terror when a 31-year-old man drove his Ford F-150 into the building and opened fire on the congregation.

The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, was killed by a church security guard, according to the Wayne, Michigan Police Department.

Structure fire shuts down portion of Lovers Lane in Portage, dispatch says

As of Tuesday night, a portion of Lovers Lane in Portage is shut down while crews work to put out a structure fire, according to the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority.

Lovers Lane between East Milham Avenue and Friendly Avenue remains closed as of 10:24 p.m., according to dispatch, who said they are unable to provide any further details about the fire at this time.

Person found unconscious, floating in Lake Michigan near South Haven hospitalized

One person was taken to the hospital after being found floating and unconscious in Lake Michigan Monday evening, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES).

SHAES responders were called around 6 p.m. after a boater reported that they saw someone floating and unconscious in the water about five miles south of the lighthouse, authorities said.
