Revived mudbug-music festival on tap Saturday at Front Street Plaza

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Crawfish are on the menu as the Catfish & Mudbug Music Festival returns to town.

The free festival will begin at 11 a.m. at Front Street Festival Plaza, with a promise of “over 12 hours of non-stop food, music and family fun.”

“We’ve received overwhelming support from the public, and there’s a high level of excitement from both attendees and participants. We’re proud to feature a lineup of regional artists traveling in from surrounding areas to perform. Vendors are also coming in from the DFW Metroplex and as far south as Louisiana to be a part of this revived tradition,” said organizer Tameka Grady of WC4 Agency.

The Loading Dock Stage is the “heart of the festival,” the city said in a news release. The musical lineup includes Stevie Ray and The Deacon, The Rod P Outfit, Jack Forte, BlackStrap and The Left Hooks. Trophy Husbands will close out the festival, which is expected to end about 11 p.m.

Local DJ Hollygrove also is on the playbill to keep “people on their feet and fully in the moment,” according to an event flyer.

It has been nearly a decade since the last catfish festival, which initially was known as the Cajun Catfish Festival.

“The Catfish Festival originally began in 2016, and the last time it was held on Front Street Plaza was back in 2017,” Grady said.

The resurrected event — which Grady said would be “bigger and better than ever” — is the second program on Front Street Fesitval Plaza for WC4 Agency. The local events promoter entered a three-year contract in March to coordinate plaza programming with the city.

“This event is shaping up to be one of the summer’s highlights, and we’re thrilled to see Texarkana show up and show out,” Grady said.
