Carriage Town Porchfest, ‘a love letter to Flint,’ bringing live music to historic neighborhood July 18

FLINT, MI – The Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association is bringing back one of Flint’s most beloved community events.

The Sixth Annual Carriage Town Porchfest is planned for 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, July 18, turning several blocks of the city’s historic Carriage Town neighborhood into a vibrant, walkable music festival.

The free celebration invites the public to explore the heart of Carriage Town–centered around West First Avenue and Mason Street–while enjoying live performances by local musicians who take to neighborhood porches as their stages.

Inspired by the original Porchfest in Ithaca, New York, Flint’s version has grown into a grassroots showcase of creativity, culture, and community.

This year’s lineup includes Jeff Skigh, Jon Connor, Madison Olivia, BRB, Taylor Tatum, Cainaen, Bleau Otis, Eric McIntyre, and many more.

“Porchfest is a love letter to Flint,” Event Chair Travis Gilbert said in a statement. “It’s about coming together, no ticket price, no gates, just people celebrating where they live and who they are through music.”

The festival will also feature food trucks, artisan vendors, and children’s activities, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere for all ages. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the evening at their own pace.

“There’s something powerful about music on a porch,” Flint-based performer and event organizer Jeff Skigh said in a statement. “It’s raw, it’s local, and it’s ours.”

The Carriage Town neighborhood also benefits from increased public and official recognition of the value of its history.

The Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association (CTHNA) was formed in 1982 when residents and business people united to improve the historic, but deteriorated neighborhood and to share their vision of its significance and potential. CTHNA was incorporated in 1984 and its members have published a newsletter, conducted crime watches, organized festivals and held clean-up efforts since.

Parking will be available at the Dort Durant Carriage Company lot and nearby public areas.
