Tomorrowland Music Festival’s Main Stage Catches Fire 2 Days Before Opening

A fire broke out on the main stage of the Tomorrowland musical festival in Belgium. The incident occurred only 2 days before the stage’s planned opening on Friday, July 18 at the internationally popular event.

According to CNN, Tomorrowland’s main stage was almost entirely destroyed by the fire, but no one was injured. No festival-goers were at the scene and the approximately 1,000 staff members in the area were evacuated while firefighters and law enforcement responded to the blaze. How the fire started remains unconfirmed at this time.

The DreamVille camp site will still open on Thursday, and organizers are looking into solutions for the festival weekend. Read a statement from Tomorrowland’s organizers below:

Due to a serious incident and fire on the Tomorrowland Mainstage, our beloved Mainstage has been severely damaged. We can confirm that no one was injured during the incident.

The Music Festival Has To Adapt Now

The EDM dance festival that hosts tens of thousands of patrons each year has hit a major setback. Organizers are actively looking into solutions to still make the festival weekend a reality for the many attendees coming from Belgium and other countries across the world, but the loss of the main stage will prove to be challenging.

With the DreamVille campsite opening up, the decision has been made not to cancel the Tomorrowland festival, but the event will undeniably be different from how it has been in past years. Organizers will need to quickly find a way to adapt if the festival is to proceed despite not having the main stage for the musical performances.

The headline performers included French DJ David Guetta, Belgian DJ Charlotte De Witte, and Dutch DJ Martin Garrix. The Tomorrowland website has confirmed that Global Journey activities set to take place in Brussels and Antwerp are still happening, as this part of the event can move forward without the main stage.

Our Take On The Tomorrowland Main Stage Fire

Most Importantly, No One Was Injured

The most important development to come out of the Tomorrowland main stage fire is that no one is injured. A fire breaking out at a public event attended by tens of thousands could have led to a horrific outcome, and it is a relief that the scene was contained, staff members were evacuated, and the fire was dealt with by firefighters and law enforcement.

Now the focus will turn to what the event will look like without the main stage. Given the extensive number of individuals who have paid for Tomorrowland and traveled across the world for it, avoiding a cancellation is understandable. There is still the DreamVille camp site and Global Journey activities, but hosting the musical performers will require other solutions.
