Broadway’s Andrea Ross to feature in upcoming Lakes Are Music Festival concert – Brainerd Dispatch

BRAINERD — The Lakes Area Music Festival kicks off its Winter Series with “Ghost Light Cabaret,” a concert featuring Broadway star and frequent festival guest Andrea Ross.

The performance will take place 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd. Tickets can be reserved online in advance or in person beginning one hour prior to the performance. For assistance, please call 218-275-5263. The organization partners with the Minnesota Orchestra for box office services and offers pay-as-you-wish ticketing ranging from free to $60.

Step into the shadows of the stage for an unforgettable evening of Broadway’s most hauntingly beautiful music. Ross joins pianist and festival artistic director Scott Lykins for a spellbinding journey through classic and contemporary show tunes, just in time for Halloween. From the chilling romance of “Phantom of the Opera” to the underworld rhythms of “Hadestown” and the magical power of “Wicked,” this intimate cabaret blends torch songs, ghostly ballads, and theatrical magic under the soft glow of the ghost light.

Ross is an internationally recognized vocalist, recording artist and Broadway performer, hailed by the Boston Globe as “a phenom, whose poise and pipes are astounding” and by Variety Magazine as a “lovely, clear soprano.” Ross’ career was launched by the mentorship of Broadway composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who produced her UK chart-topping album “Moon River” with Universal Music Group’s Classics and Jazz label. She is featured on multiple tracks of “Andrew Lloyd Webber 60” (Universal Music Group) and the “Over The Rainbow” (UCJ) charity album, peaking at No. 1 on the UK Compilation Charts.

Ross is a seasoned musical theater entertainer, performing lead roles in the Broadway national tours of Webber’s “Whistle Down the Wind” and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music.” Ross’ theatrical accolades include the prestigious Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Actress awarded by the Boston Theater Critics Association. As a sought-after soloist, Andrea Ross has appeared with top symphony orchestras around the world, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Phoenix Symphony, South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, Savannah Philharmonic, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, and many more.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.

Hi, I’m the Brainerd Dispatch. I started working a few days before Christmas in 1881 and became a daily paper two years later. I’ve gone through a lot of changes over the years, but what has never changed is my commitment to community and to local journalism. I’ve got an entire team of dedicated people who work night and day to make sure I go out every morning, whether in print, as an e-edition, via an app or with additional information at www.brainerddispatch.com. News, weather, sports — videos, photos, podcasts and social media — all covering stories from central Minnesota about your neighbors, your lakes, your communities, your challenges and your opportunities. It’s all part of the effort to keep people connected and informed. And we couldn’t do it without support.
