The 2025 Newport Classical Music Festival continues its 56th year through July 22, offering music lovers the chance to experience intimate concerts in some of Newport’s most iconic venues.
While many performances are sold out, tickets remain available for several world-class concerts featuring renowned artists performing in settings ranging from historic mansions to picturesque outdoor locations.
Tonight, July 8, acclaimed pianist Sara Davis Buechner takes the stage at Castle Hill Inn at 7:30 PM. Known for her “intelligence, integrity, and all-encompassing technical prowess” according to the New York Times, Buechner will perform a jazz-inspired program featuring works by John Alden Carpenter, Vernon Duke, Dana Suesse, Ravel, and Poulenc. The concert includes complimentary desserts and coffee during intermission, set against Newport’s stunning summer sunset on the water.
The festival showcases over 100 artists across 29 intimate concerts at 11 venues, including The Breakers, The Elms, Redwood Library and Athenaeum, Newport Art Museum, Colony House, Rosecliff Terrace, Norman Bird Sanctuary, Blithewold Mansion, and Castle Hill Inn.
Upcoming performances with available tickets include Third Coast Percussion on July 10 at The Breakers, celebrating 20 years of genre-defying music with selections from their GRAMMY-nominated and award-winning albums. The ensemble will perform works by Clarice Assad, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Jlin, Jessie Montgomery, and Tigran Hamasyan.
On July 12, GRAMMY Award-winning soprano Karen Slack presents “African Queens” at The Breakers, featuring new works by contemporary composers, including Jessie Montgomery, Shawn Okpebholo, and Joel Thompson. The collaborative song cycle spotlights seven African Queens whose legacies as rulers and warriors have often been overlooked.
The festival continues with Tallā Rouge, a Cajun-Persian viola duo, performing at the Newport Art Museum on July 15, followed by Palaver Strings at The Breakers on July 17, and concluding with the Attacca Quartet on July 19, also at The Breakers.
Originally founded in 1969 as Rhode Island Arts Foundation at Newport, Inc., Newport Classical has presented American debuts of hundreds of international artists and has become the most active year-round presenter of live performing arts on Aquidneck Island.
The organization operates four core programs: the Music Festival, Chamber Series, Community Concerts Series, and Music Education and Engagement Initiative. Since 2021, Newport Classical has committed to commissioning new works annually by Black, Indigenous, person of color, or woman composers.
