The Appalachian Chamber Music Festival is celebrating its fifth season with a diverse lineup of events across the region.
The festival, running from Aug. 2-17, will feature 14 concerts and educational programs, according to an announcement. Sixteen musicians, including strings, woodwinds and piano, are set to perform.
“We’ve pulled out all the stops this season,” said ACMF artistic director Katie Tertell. “I believe in the power of music, and its ability to celebrate history, nature and culture in the wider world and connect people who are not so different from ourselves.”
The festival will begin with a free outdoor jazz concert by the Howard Burns Quartet on Friday, Aug. 8, in partnership with the Harpers Ferry Park Association and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. The event will be held on the lawn at the historic site of Storer College, 51 Mather Place, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and will include arrangements of works by Storer College alum Don Redman.
Other special events include a wine and music pairing at 868 Estate Vineyards, 14001 Harpers Ferry Road, Purcellville, Virginia, on Thursday, Aug. 7, and a day celebrating historic local artist Patty Willis at Charles Washington Hall, 100 W. Washington St., No. 200, Charles Town, West Virginia on Saturday, Aug. 9.
Two performances of Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 14, and Friday, Aug. 15. The festival will also introduce a new “Coffee Concert Series” with three events in Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Saturday, Aug. 9, Sunday, Aug. 10, and Saturday, Aug. 16.
A double feature will be presented at Shepherdstown Opera House, 131 W. German St., Shepherdstown on Sunday, Aug. 10, including an Art and Music program, and a Film and Music concert featuring an original composition by festival artist and Grammy Award-winning musician Domenic Salerni. A special ticketed dinner will be held at Bistro 112, 112 W. German St., Shepherdstown, between concerts.
The festival will conclude with an outdoor event at Happy Retreat, 600 Mordington Ave., Charles Town on Sunday, Aug. 17.
Tickets are on sale now, with prices ranging from free to $95, including dinner and drinks. Most events are priced between $25 and $30. Children, ages 17 and younger, can attend most events for free when accompanied by an adult.
