ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – The streets of Downtown Escanaba closed down due to a flood of people and music.
Saturday marked Escanaba’s first-ever LogJam Music Festival on Ludington Street between 10th and 12th streets in Escanaba.
The festival is a free community street concert with a lineup of eight bands and musicians. It’s designed to highlight the city’s timber legacy and its growing reputation for music. The Great Lakes Timber Show hosted exhibitions in crosscut sawing, axe throwing and logrolling.
Craig Woerpel, the Escanaba DDA director, says the festival is for the community.
“The idea of economic development these days is to create a community that people want to live in, and you do that with placemaking events like this where people gather and have a good time, and they feel good about their community, and so that’s what this is all about, is to, you know, make our community a place that people enjoy living,” Woerpel said.
Most bands came from the U.P. Sit Down Francis, Stonewall of Escanaba and Sky Pilots of Munising, while Them Pesky Kids came from Minneapolis.
