Final Michael Hurley Album Announced: Listen to New Song “Fava”

The final album from legendary outsider folk artist Michael Hurley is set to be released posthumously. Mastered just two weeks before Hurley’s death earlier this year, Broken Homes and Gardens is out September 12 via No Quarter. See the full tracklist and listen to “Fava” from the album below.

Michael Hurley died in April at the age of 83. He had last shared a new studio album, The Time of Foxgloves, in 2021, with work on Broken Homes and Gardens beginning shortly thereafter. The record features a combination of new material and re-recordings of older songs, including “Indian Chiefs & Hula Girls,” from 1987’s Watertower, and “The Abominable Snowman,” from 1995’s Parsnip Snips. Having released his first album on Folkways Music in 1964, Hurley’s recording career will now encompass over 60 years.
