Free music with Cherokee artist Agalisiga on June 13 | Entertainment

TULSA – The nonprofit Horton Records “Friday Hang,” a free music series featuring original music from Tulsa artists in the upstairs lounge (21+) of Tulsa VFW Post 577, 1109 E. Sixth Street, continues this Friday, June 13, with Cherokee country artist, Agalisiga

Music begins at 7 PM, and free pizza from Pie Hole is available on a first come, first served basis.

Agalisiga grew up in a small traditional Cherokee community in the unincorporated town of Kenwood in northeast Oklahoma before moving to the Cherokee Nation capital of Tahlequah to become a language learner at the Cherokee Immersion Charter School. For Agalisiga, writing and singing in his native language is a natural fit. Now a language teacher himself, Agalisiga is on a journey to preserve the Cherokee language and pass along his love of country-western music. Steeped in Tribal traditions and inspired by classic country and blues sounds and themes, with vocals honed by a lifetime immersed in Cherokee ceremonial songs, Agalisiga’s music is an authentic reflection of who he is and what he believes.

“This series has been very well received, and we plan to continue it. It’s been a good opportunity to introduce tremendous talents, like Agalisiga, to a broader audience,” says Brian Horton, president of Horton Records. “Everyone is enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of VFW Post 577’s Centennial Lounge. We’re seeing many of our regular music fans, as well as meeting new people, including visitors from out of town. It’s the perfect place to enjoy this music and feel that sense of community that the city is known for.”

VFW Post 577 has hosted music and events of all kinds for the majority of the 100 + years of its existence. This free music series offers Tulsans 21+ a chance to enjoy an early set with some of the city’s finest musicians, as well as the opportunity to introduce a broader community to VFW Post 577, a history-filled local venue.

Located in the heart of Tulsa’s Pearl District, near E. 6th St. & S. Peoria, VFW Post 577 is easily accessible and offers ample, lighted parking, as well as an elevated patio with a spectacular view of downtown Tulsa.
