The International Chamber Music Festival Cameralia opens on Saturday, at the Sofia City Art Gallery with the flamenco performance Carisimo – Flamenco Magic featuring acclaimed guitarist Juan Ramon Caro, singer Antonia Contreras, and dancer Carmen Camacho, the organizers said. The concert is held in partnership with the Embassy of Spain and marks the Bulgarian debut of these extraordinary artists, the organizers added.
The seventh Cameralia Festival runs through October 27 and includes four concerts. It opens with flamenco and closes with jazz, while the two remaining performances are dedicated to classical music.
“Cameralia 2025 once again blends a variety of genres, from classical to flamenco to jazz, and continues to expand the concept of chamber music,” Maestro Ludmil Angelov, the festival’s founder and artistic director, said at a press conference at the Bulgarian News Agency’s (BTA) National Press Club at the end of September.
The second concert, on October 12, will mark the festival debut of the youth trio Assai, consisting of violinist Georgi Raychev, cellist Todor Ivanov, and pianist Peter Dyulgerov.
“These debut performances are no longer a novelty for us, we have been striving for several years now to give young performers the opportunity to appear before a Sofia audience and take part in our festival,” Angelov said. He added that the event is held in partnership with New Bulgarian University, where the young musicians recently participated in a workshop under his mentorship. “The concert is, in a sense, their reward. The trio will perform challenging works by Schubert and Mendelssohn” Angelov said.
On October 15, Angelov will perform on stage with internationally renowned flutist Luisa Sello, with a program featuring works by Mozart, Doppler, Donizetti, and Franck. “She is a highly active concert performer and a frequent chamber music partner of world-class musicians,” Angelov said. The concert is organized with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute.
The closing concert, on October 27, will feature the Big Band of the National Music Academy, with soloists Karendra Devroop (saxophone) and Konstantin Kostov (piano). The event will take place in the concert hall of the National Music Academy and will be conducted by Mihail Yossifov. Access is free to the audience.
Karendra Devroop and Konstantin Kostov will lead masterclasses for the academy’s students.
The Cameralia Festival is organized by the Piano Extravaganza Foundation. Alongside preparing the festival program, one of the foundation’s key missions is the revival of global musical heritage by collecting rare music scores and performing them at the Piano Extravaganza Festival. The foundation’s founder and artistic director is Maestro Ludmil Angelov.
